Every iPhone since the X-series uses the same arrangement: a bottom-firing loudspeaker beside the charging port, and the earpiece above the display doubling as the second stereo channel. The grille on the opposite side of the port is a microphone, not a speaker — covering it while audio plays confirms this, because the sound will not change.
Make a call held to your ear — that is the earpiece. Play a music file on speaker — that is the bottom driver. If calls are clear but media is muffled, the bottom grille is blocked. If both are equally dull, suspect a setting rather than debris, since a physical obstruction cannot affect a driver it is not touching.
This is worth repeating because a great deal of material online implies otherwise. Water Lock and its ejection function exist on Apple Watch. There is no iPhone equivalent, no hidden setting, and no Control Centre toggle. A paired Watch's eject does nothing for the phone.
On models with a physical SIM tray, eject it and shine a light into the slot. A white strip means liquid has not reached that point; pink or red means it has, and Apple will treat resulting damage as outside warranty. Some recent eSIM-only models have no tray, removing this check.
