Usually blockage — liquid if it happened suddenly, dust if it happened gradually. This is the case acoustic cleaning was designed for and where it performs best. Check the onset pattern before anything else, because it splits the diagnosis cleanly.
Usually not the speaker. Audio routed to a Bluetooth device, the wrong volume control, or a stuck routing flag account for most of these. Blockage produces quiet, never silence — so complete silence rules out debris immediately.
Gradual: dust accumulation. Sudden: liquid, a new case, or a volume limiter. Both are worth checking before assuming hardware, and both are free to check.
Depends on when. Crackling at high volume only is usually the driver reaching its excursion limit. Crackling that changes when you flex the phone is a loose connector. A fine fizzing at low volume is often liquid, and does respond to cleaning.

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.
Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
