Volume down, treble dull, but nothing missing and nothing rattling. This is the signature of blockage — liquid or debris — and it is the case acoustic cleaning is for. Sudden onset points to liquid; gradual onset over months points to dust.
A torn diaphragm or a voice coil rubbing in the magnet gap. Not blockage, and importantly, continuing to run cycles at volume can enlarge a tear. Lower the volume: if it largely disappears, that confirms mechanical damage rather than obstruction.
A loose or partially seated connector. Common after a drop. Needs the case opened, and is often an inexpensive repair because nothing has actually failed — it has just come loose.
The suspension has stretched or failed and the coil bottoms out on large excursions. Mid-range stays clean while music breaks up. Hardware.
A disconnected flex cable or a dead amplifier channel. Blockage produces quiet, never silence — so complete silence rules out debris immediately.
One grille is blocked and the other is not. A physical obstruction cannot affect a driver it is not touching, so this asymmetry actually confirms blockage and tells you exactly which opening to work on.
Suspect software rather than debris. Liquid and dust rarely affect two separate openings equally. Check for an equaliser, an enhancement mode, a volume limiter, or a stuck audio route.
If it correlates with a specific app, that app is the cause. If it correlates with temperature or handling, suspect a connector. If it seems random, restart and observe whether it returns.
Restart the device. Turn Bluetooth fully off. Set any EQ to flat. Test earpiece and loudspeaker separately with speech. Those four steps eliminate the majority of non-hardware causes before you touch anything physical.

Blockage produces quiet, never total silence. If there is no sound whatsoever, check that media volume is up, that no Bluetooth device is connected, and that Do Not Disturb is off. If all three are clear, the fault is hardware.

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.
Playing an audio file does not modify your device or open it, so the tool itself has no warranty implication. Note separately that liquid damage is usually excluded from standard warranty cover regardless.
