This is the key diagnostic fact. An obstruction adds mass and restricts the aperture, which reduces output — sometimes dramatically. It cannot reduce it to nothing, because the diaphragm is still moving and some air still escapes. If there is genuinely no sound whatsoever, the cause is electrical or mechanical, not debris.
Make a call held to your ear — that uses the earpiece. Then play a file on speaker — that uses the main driver. If one works and the other does not, the fault is isolated to that component. If neither works, the problem is more likely software or the audio chip than two independent hardware failures.
That points to a disconnected flex cable, a failed amplifier channel, or a dead speaker module. Cable disconnection is common after a drop and is often an inexpensive repair. None of it responds to acoustic cleaning.
If the device was recently wet, water bridging contacts can cause silence that resolves as it dries. Leave it 24 to 48 hours in moving air, do not charge it, and retest. That is the one scenario where silence recovers on its own.
