Perfectly safe. These are ordinary frequencies your speaker already plays during music. The tool never exceeds normal listening levels — it just concentrates the energy at the frequency range where diaphragm travel is greatest.

This is the one symptom where the cleaning tool is almost certainly not the answer, and it is worth saying so before you spend time on cycles.

Blockage produces quiet, never silence

This is the key diagnostic fact. An obstruction adds mass and restricts the aperture, which reduces output — sometimes dramatically. It cannot reduce it to nothing, because the diaphragm is still moving and some air still escapes. If there is genuinely no sound whatsoever, the cause is electrical or mechanical, not debris.

Run these checks first — they take two minutes

  1. Bluetooth. Turn it off entirely, not just disconnect. Audio silently routed to earbuds in a bag or a car system is the single most common cause of "no sound".
  2. Media volume specifically. Phones keep separate levels for media, ringer, calls and alarms. Start playing something, then press volume up — that guarantees you are adjusting the right one.
  3. Do Not Disturb / silent mode. Including any scheduled focus mode you may have forgotten.
  4. Restart. A stuck audio route is common and a reboot clears it in seconds.
  5. Headphone routing flag. If the device thinks a headset is plugged in, it sends everything there. Insert and remove a headphone plug a couple of times, or blow gently across the jack if the model has one.
  6. Safe mode. On Android, boot into safe mode. If sound returns, a third-party app is holding the audio route.

Test each output separately

Make a call held to your ear — that uses the earpiece. Then play a file on speaker — that uses the main driver. If one works and the other does not, the fault is isolated to that component. If neither works, the problem is more likely software or the audio chip than two independent hardware failures.

If all checks pass and there is still nothing

That points to a disconnected flex cable, a failed amplifier channel, or a dead speaker module. Cable disconnection is common after a drop and is often an inexpensive repair. None of it responds to acoustic cleaning.

One thing worth trying

If the device was recently wet, water bridging contacts can cause silence that resolves as it dries. Leave it 24 to 48 hours in moving air, do not charge it, and retest. That is the one scenario where silence recovers on its own.

FAQ

Common questions

Will this void my warranty?

Playing an audio file does not modify your device or open it, so the tool itself has no warranty implication. Note separately that liquid damage is usually excluded from standard warranty cover regardless.

How long should I run it?

Thirty to sixty seconds per cycle, repeated two or three times with short pauses. Running it continuously for many minutes adds nothing once the accessible liquid is out, and only heats the voice coil.

I cannot hear anything at all. What does that mean?

Blockage produces quiet, never total silence. If there is no sound whatsoever, check that media volume is up, that no Bluetooth device is connected, and that Do Not Disturb is off. If all three are clear, the fault is hardware.

It is still muffled after several tries. Now what?

Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.

Can this damage my speaker?

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.

What this cannot fix

Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
