A volume booster increases the electrical signal sent to the driver. If the diaphragm is physically obstructed — by liquid adding mass or debris blocking the aperture — a larger signal does not produce proportionally larger movement. It produces clipping and distortion. The limit is mechanical, and gain does not overcome a mechanical limit.
Worse. The waveform peaks flatten, the diaphragm spends part of each cycle held at full extension rather than travelling, and the output becomes harsh and buzzy rather than louder. People frequently interpret this as the speaker failing, when it is the booster failing.
If the volume loss was entirely blockage, clearing restores full factory output — exactly what the device produced when new, and no more. A speaker that was never loud will not become loud. Small drivers in thin phones have genuine physical limits that no method changes.
Blockage produces sound that is muffled but complete — quieter and duller, with treble reduced more than bass, but nothing missing and nothing rattling. If that matches, clearing will help. If the sound is complete and clean but simply not very loud, the speaker is working correctly and you are at its ceiling.
