A boost app increases the gain applied to the audio signal before it reaches the amplifier, and sometimes applies dynamic range compression so quiet passages are raised toward loud ones. That is the whole mechanism. It operates entirely in software, on the signal, before the speaker is involved at all.
If the diaphragm is physically restricted — by liquid adding mass or debris obstructing the aperture — a larger input signal does not produce proportionally larger movement. The limit is mechanical. The extra energy becomes clipping, distortion and heat in the voice coil rather than sound.
Driving an obstructed driver harder flattens the waveform peaks, so the diaphragm spends part of each cycle held at full extension rather than travelling smoothly. The output becomes harsh and buzzy. People frequently interpret this as the speaker finally failing, when it is the booster failing.
On an unobstructed speaker that the manufacturer has limited conservatively — which some do for regulatory or longevity reasons — a modest gain increase can produce genuinely more volume with acceptable quality. That is a narrow and real use case. It is not what most people install them for.
Sustained operation past the excursion limit stresses the suspension and heats the coil. On a phone speaker with limited thermal mass, running boosted audio at maximum for extended periods is one of the few software-driven ways to genuinely shorten a driver's life.

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.
Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.
For maintenance, roughly once a month is plenty. More often if you exercise heavily, work outdoors, or live somewhere humid or dusty. There is no benefit to daily use on a speaker that sounds fine.
