Perfectly safe. These are ordinary frequencies your speaker already plays during music. The tool never exceeds normal listening levels — it just concentrates the energy at the frequency range where diaphragm travel is greatest.

Turning it up is the obvious response when a cycle does not work. It is also counterproductive, for reasons that are worth understanding rather than just accepting.

Loudness and displacement diverge

Up to a point, more power means more diaphragm travel and more sound. Past that point the amplifier can no longer reproduce the peaks of the waveform cleanly, and it clips them — flattening the rounded top of each sine wave into a plateau. The measured loudness keeps rising, but the diaphragm's clean travel stops improving.

What clipping does to the mechanism

A clipped waveform holds the diaphragm at full extension for part of each cycle instead of moving it continuously through its range. The motion becomes closer to a vibration than a pump. Since pumping is what moves liquid out of the cavity, the effectiveness of each cycle actually falls while the volume rises.

The thermal problem

The voice coil is a length of very fine wire. Sustained low-frequency output at high volume heats it, and heat raises its electrical resistance — which reduces output further. A long maximum-volume cycle therefore gets progressively less effective as it runs, on top of already being less effective than a clean one.

The damage case

On an intact speaker, moderate volume carries essentially no risk. On a speaker with a torn diaphragm or a compromised suspension, high-amplitude low-frequency output can enlarge the damage. This is why buzzing that worsens with volume is a signal to stop rather than a signal to push through.

The right level

70 to 80 percent. Enough for near-maximum clean excursion, below the clipping threshold on most devices, and thermally comfortable across several cycles. On large drivers — Bluetooth speakers, laptops — 60 to 70 percent already produces the same excursion a phone gets at maximum.

What to change instead when it is not working

Orientation, first: grille straight down, angled about 45 degrees. Then case off, Bluetooth fully off, brush the exterior, and wipe between cycles. These affect results more than the volume slider and none of them risks anything.

FAQ

Common questions

It is still muffled after several tries. Now what?

Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.

How often should I use it?

For maintenance, roughly once a month is plenty. More often if you exercise heavily, work outdoors, or live somewhere humid or dusty. There is no benefit to daily use on a speaker that sounds fine.

Will this void my warranty?

Playing an audio file does not modify your device or open it, so the tool itself has no warranty implication. Note separately that liquid damage is usually excluded from standard warranty cover regardless.

Should I set volume to maximum?

No. Around 70 to 80 percent is the practical sweet spot. Maximum volume on a restricted diaphragm produces distortion rather than more displacement, and adds avoidable stress to the driver.

Can this damage my speaker?

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.

What this cannot fix

Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
