Its driver is smaller, its enclosure is tiny, and it produces markedly less bass and less volume than the bottom speaker.
So an upper speaker that sounds perfectly clear during a call but thin and quiet during music is usually behaving exactly as designed. Many manufacturers deliberately mix more energy to the bottom driver, which increases the perceived imbalance.
The question is not whether it is quieter — it is whether it has changed. Compare against memory of when the phone was new, or against another unit of the same model if you can. A gradual decline points to accumulation; a sudden change points to liquid or a screen protector.
