On Galaxy phones the earpiece doubles as the second stereo channel. It was built for close-range call audio, so it produces less volume and much less bass than the bottom-firing loudspeaker. Mild imbalance is the hardware rather than a fault — the question is whether it has changed.
Check these in order:
