Blockage produces sound that is muffled but complete — quieter and duller, nothing rattling. A rattle or buzz that worsens as volume rises is mechanical, and no amount of cleaning addresses it. This distinction matters more on Pixel than on some lines, because a rattle in the chassis can be mistaken for a driver fault.

Before assuming a hardware fault, remove the case and hold the device in the air while it plays. A buzz that vanishes was a case, a popsocket, or the surface the phone was resting on resonating in sympathy — not the speaker at all.
Pixel pairs a bottom-firing loudspeaker with the earpiece as the second channel. The earpiece is smaller and quieter by design, so mild imbalance is the hardware rather than a fault. The question is whether the balance has changed, not whether it exists.
Play a mono recording and cover each grille in turn with a fingertip. Judging them separately is far more reliable than comparing by ear while both play. Remember that the opening opposite the USB-C port is a microphone — covering it will not change the sound.
Pixel repairs frequently involve removing components near the earpiece assembly. If a speaker complaint started after a repair, a reseated or partially connected flex cable is a strong candidate — particularly if the symptom changes when you flex the chassis.
