Step one: diagnosis

A competent shop tests before opening anything — each speaker in isolation, the microphones, and whether the fault follows software or hardware. This should be free or credited against the repair. A shop that quotes a firm price before testing is guessing.

Step two: opening the device

Modern phones are sealed with adhesive that requires controlled heat and patience. This is where most of the labour cost sits — often more than the part itself. It is also why opening a device almost always compromises its water resistance: factory adhesive seals are rarely restored to original spec.

Step three: what happens next depends on the fault

What drives the price

Which speaker failed matters most — an earpiece bonded into the display assembly is a far larger job than a bottom loudspeaker. Then whether the part is a bare driver or a sealed waterproof module. Then labour to open the device. And finally whether liquid reached the board, which changes a swap into a clean-and-inspect.

Realistic timescales

A straightforward speaker swap is often same-day if the part is in stock. Liquid damage takes longer because cleaning and drying cannot be rushed, and because a responsible shop will test over a period rather than handing it straight back.

What a good shop tells you

That the fault might not be the speaker. That liquid damage carries no guarantee of long-term success even after a clean. That opening the device affects water resistance. A shop that presents any repair as certain is overselling, particularly with corrosion involved.

After the repair

Test everything before leaving — both speakers, all microphones, the proximity sensor, and charging. Faults introduced during reassembly are easiest to resolve while you are still there.

FAQ

Common questions

It is still muffled after several tries. Now what?

Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.

Can this damage my speaker?

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.

How long should I run it?

Thirty to sixty seconds per cycle, repeated two or three times with short pauses. Running it continuously for many minutes adds nothing once the accessible liquid is out, and only heats the voice coil.

Should I set volume to maximum?

No. Around 70 to 80 percent is the practical sweet spot. Maximum volume on a restricted diaphragm produces distortion rather than more displacement, and adds avoidable stress to the driver.

Does the rice trick work?

No. Rice is a poor desiccant — open moving air dries a device faster — and its starch dust migrates into the charging port, microphone holes and speaker grille, which can create a second problem on top of the first.

What this cannot fix

Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
