Perfectly safe. These are ordinary frequencies your speaker already plays during music. The tool never exceeds normal listening levels — it just concentrates the energy at the frequency range where diaphragm travel is greatest.
The difference between a cycle that works and one that does not is mostly setup. The same tool, run two ways, produces noticeably different results.
Remove the case. Cases overlap grille edges and hold expelled debris
against the opening.
Turn Bluetooth off entirely. Not disconnect — off. A paired device
in range can silently take the audio route, and you will conclude the tool failed when
it never played through the speaker.
Brush the grille. Thirty seconds, stroking across the openings.
Volume to 70–80 percent. Not maximum.
Position for each cycle
Grille facing straight down, device angled roughly 45 degrees rather than held flat. Flat
means expelled debris sits on the casing right next to the opening. Angled means it falls
away. This is a small change that measurably affects how much stays out.
Cycle structure
Run 30 to 45 seconds, then stop. Brush or blow gently across the grille exterior — not
into it — to clear what has just been pushed out. Then run the next cycle. Four or five
passes structured this way outperforms a single long run by a wide margin, because each
pass starts with a clear exit path.
Use the sweep, not the fixed tone
For dust specifically this matters. A steady frequency lets debris settle into a position
within the oscillation where it stops being disturbed. A sweep continually changes the
motion so no stable position exists. If your tool offers both, dust is the case for sweep.
Reading progress
Dust improves incrementally rather than suddenly. Listen for the tone itself becoming
cleaner and slightly louder between cycles without you touching the volume — that is the
obstruction reducing. Water tends to produce one clear step change; dust produces a
gradient.
Stopping
Five passes is a reasonable ceiling. Beyond that the returns are negligible and the voice
coil has been working hard. If the sound has improved but not fully recovered, a second
session the following day often gains a little more once settled debris has redistributed.

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.
It is still muffled after several tries. Now what?
Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.
Is removing dust different from removing water?
Yes. Water is held by surface tension and usually clears in one or two cycles. Dust is wedged mechanically and held by static, so it needs a sweeping range of frequencies and several more passes.
How long should I run it?
Thirty to sixty seconds per cycle, repeated two or three times with short pauses. Running it continuously for many minutes adds nothing once the accessible liquid is out, and only heats the voice coil.
How often should I use it?
For maintenance, roughly once a month is plenty. More often if you exercise heavily, work outdoors, or live somewhere humid or dusty. There is no benefit to daily use on a speaker that sounds fine.
What this cannot fix
Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
