Acoustic ejection — effective for liquid and loose debris, free, no risk at moderate volume. This is the only method on the list that reaches inside the cavity without opening anything.
Soft dry brushing — effective for surface lint on the grille exterior, and a genuine complement to acoustic cleaning rather than a competitor. Do it first.
Adhesive putty — effective on compacted debris sitting in the mesh openings. Press lightly, lift straight off. Do not knead it into the grille.
Compressed air — actively harmful when fired into a grille. It drives debris past the dust mesh into a space you cannot reach afterwards.
Alcohol or cleaning fluid — harmful. Liquid carries debris inward and can reach the diaphragm.
Ultrasonic bath — genuinely effective, but it requires immersion and disassembly. This is a technician's tool for corroded boards, not a home method, and a phone cannot perform it on itself.
Judge a cleaner by whether the sound improves, not by how impressive the interface looks. Test with speech before and after — consonants expose remaining muffling that a bass-heavy track hides. If two or three cycles change nothing audible, the method is not the problem; the diagnosis is.

Yes. Water is held by surface tension and usually clears in one or two cycles. Dust is wedged mechanically and held by static, so it needs a sweeping range of frequencies and several more passes.
Thirty to sixty seconds per cycle, repeated two or three times with short pauses. Running it continuously for many minutes adds nothing once the accessible liquid is out, and only heats the voice coil.
For maintenance, roughly once a month is plenty. More often if you exercise heavily, work outdoors, or live somewhere humid or dusty. There is no benefit to daily use on a speaker that sounds fine.
No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.
