Which tone type for which problem

Reading the tone at the start of a cycle

A tone that sounds slightly dull or damped in the first seconds usually indicates liquid present — the water is adding mass and restricting travel. A tone that starts perfectly clean on a speaker you believe is blocked suggests either that the blockage is not liquid, or that the audio is not reaching this driver at all.

The mid-cycle change

The most useful signal available. If the tone becomes noticeably cleaner and slightly louder partway through without you touching the volume, that is the surface tension film fragmenting and the diaphragm regaining travel. It is a genuine confirmation that the mechanism engaged.

What a healthy tone sounds like

A steady, smooth hum. Not a rattle, not a buzz, not fuzzy. Distortion at moderate volume is the speaker reporting a mechanical problem — and it is a reason to stop and reassess rather than to increase the volume.

If you hear nothing at all

Three checks in order. Bluetooth fully off, not just disconnected. Media volume specifically — start the tone, then adjust while it plays. And confirm the tone is in a range your device can reproduce: below about 100 Hz most phone speakers produce nothing audible.

Using a high tone as a test

A 10 kHz tone is useless for cleaning but excellent for measuring progress, because high frequencies are attenuated most by mesh blockage. Play it before your cycles, note how muffled it sounds, then play it again afterwards. That comparison is more reliable than judging music by memory.

FAQ

Common questions

Should I set volume to maximum?

No. Around 70 to 80 percent is the practical sweet spot. Maximum volume on a restricted diaphragm produces distortion rather than more displacement, and adds avoidable stress to the driver.

How long should I run it?

Thirty to sixty seconds per cycle, repeated two or three times with short pauses. Running it continuously for many minutes adds nothing once the accessible liquid is out, and only heats the voice coil.

It is still muffled after several tries. Now what?

Stop. If three cycles produce no improvement at all, the cause is not blockage. Check the symptoms on our guide to when a sound tool will not help, and have the device inspected rather than continuing to run cycles.

Will this void my warranty?

Playing an audio file does not modify your device or open it, so the tool itself has no warranty implication. Note separately that liquid damage is usually excluded from standard warranty cover regardless.

Can this damage my speaker?

No. The frequencies used sit inside the range your speaker already reproduces whenever you play music, and the tool runs at moderate volume rather than maximum. The one genuine caution is earbuds: never run ejection tones into in-ear devices while you are wearing them.

What this cannot fix

Our tool is great for water and dust, but it cannot fix physically blown speakers or electrical damage.
